Types of Car Accidents

There are various types of car accidents caused by different factors and which may lead to different types of injuries. The dedicated personal injury lawyer at Goldman Law, P.A. represents clients who have been involved in car accidents, regardless of the nature of the crash.

The more common types of traffic accidents on Florida roadways include the following:

  • Head-on collisions. Head-on collisions involve two cars colliding head-on, front-to-front. They are extremely dangerous and often fatal. Head-on collisions can occur when someone drifts into oncoming traffic due to drowsiness, intoxication, or distraction, or if someone intentionally moves into an oncoming traffic lane to pass a slower-moving vehicle.
  • T-bone crashes. T-bone or side-impact crashes, occur when one car slams forward directly into the side of another vehicle. Broadside crashes are more common at intersections and often involve one driver missing a traffic sign or signal, running into (or being struck by) another driver who had the right of way. Broadside crashes are incredibly dangerous, often leading to serious injury or death for either the passenger or the driver of the car that was broadsided.
  • Rear-End Collisions. Rear-end collisions are among the most common two-vehicle accident types. Even low-speed rear-end collisions, often called “fender benders,” can cause significant injury, including whiplash. Whiplash can cause significant and long-term pain in a victim’s neck and spine, limited functionality, and possibly even disability. Rear-end collisions are usually considered to be the fault of the driver in the rear, but there are exceptions.
  • Rollover accidents. Rollover accidents can be some of the most intense and scary accidents. Rollover accidents involve a car flipping or rolling over one or more times, and they are more likely to occur when larger vehicles are involved, such as buses, trucks, or SUVs. Statistics indicate that most rollover crashes are single-vehicle accidents, often involving sharp turns and/or inclement weather or road conditions.

Florida Car Accident Statistics

Traffic crashes are one of the leading causes of injury and trauma-related deaths in Florida, as well as countrywide. According to statistics from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), in 2019, there were more than 400,000 traffic crashes across the state. Over 166,000 of those crashes involved injury, and 3,174 people were killed. Florida officials estimate that car crashes happen once every 92 seconds. Moreover, 102,756 of those crashes were hit and runs, leading to 215 hit-and-run fatalities. Car accidents are all-too-common, and if you or a loved one is hurt or killed in an accident, you deserve compensation for your harm.
